Former Charlton manager new favourite for Bolton job

Former Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell is the new favourite for the Bolton Wanderers job, according to Bolton News.

Bolton have been looking for a new manager after they sacked Neil Lennon back in March for increasingly poor results that eventually relegated them from the Championship.

And now chairman Ken Anderson has whittled down the 94 applicants down to four people, with Powell currently leading the pack.

Powell does have experience in League 1 having managed Charlton when they became the champions of the third tier ahead of Sheffield Wednesday back in 2012.

Most recently though he had an unsuccessful spell with Huddersfield Town which ended in November 2015 after a poor start to the season.

Powell isn’t the only man who could be sitting in the Bolton hotseat at the start of the season however. Two of the other people on the shortlist are Steve Cotterill, who got Bristol City promoted from League 1 last season, and Nigel Adkins who was sacked by Sheffield United at the end of this season.

The last name on the shortlist is currently unknown but is thought to be Leeds United manager Steve Evans who isn’t expected to get a new contract at Elland Road.
