VIDEO: a look at Middlesbrough target Lucas Perez

According to a report in the Gazette Live, and something picked up on The72 earlier, Middlesbrough are in the market and interested in Deportivo La Coruña’s exciting and prolific striker Lucas Pérez.

The 27-year-old La Coruña-born striker has notched 17 goals this season in La Liga for his hometown club, who he joined in August of last year from Greek side PAOK Saloniki for a fee that website Transfermarkt put at around £1.1m, having been on loan at Deportivo from the Greek club for the 2014/15 season.

That season, on loan to Deportivo, Pérez scored six goals and provided three assists over the 21 La Liga appearances – the goals coming at the rate of one every 258 minutes. However, it is his form this season that has caught the eye of the Teessiders – a season where his goal output has improved massively.

For Deportivo La Coruña during the 2015/16 La Liga campaign, Pérez notched 17 goals – these coming at the rate of a goal per 185 minutes of game time. To put all that in perspective, that strike rate marks him out to be a potential 18-goal striker over a full 38-game Premier League season. Pérez’s 17 goals for the season included a hot-streak of seven consecutive games scoring, including a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw with champions Barcelona in December.

Expected output of Lucas Pérez per typical 90 minutes (unless specified)

  • Shots: 2.9 per 90 minutes (including 1.4 on-target shots)
  • Dribbles: 2.2 dribbles per 90 minutes (including 1.1 successful)
  • Possession Loss: 4 per 90 minutes (including 1.9 dispossessed)
  • Pass Attempts: 25.7 per 90 minutes (including 20.4 accurate passes)
