Sunderland to renew interest in Robins defender

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce is set to renew his interest in Bristol City defender Aden Flint as the Premier League club aim to build on their 2015/2016 survival success according to the Bristol Post.

The 26 year old Pinxton born defender was a key player for The Robins last season having made 47 appearances for the club, scoring six goals. The player’s reliability has seen Flint linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Everton all previously linked with moves for the big centre half.

It has now been reported that Sunderland could renew their interest in the player with The Black Cats’ boss Sam Allardyce possibly offering Bristol City the opportunity to swap Flint for former loan defender Adam Matthews while also offering The Robins a significant cash sum as part of the deal.

The 24 year old right back had a spell on loan at Ashton Gate last season making nine appearances for the club and it is thought that Bristol City manager Lee Johnson remains a huge admirer of the Welsh international defender.

In demand defender Aden Flint is currently under contract at Bristol City until summer 2019 and after enjoying a hugely impressive 2015/2016 campaign at the heart of The Robins defence it could take a huge transfer offer to persuade City to part with their player.
