Sandro

Championship midfielder set for Lisbon move

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro is a summer transfer target for Portuguese Primeira Lifa runners-up Sporting Lisbon according to the Daily Mail. Jorge Jesus is desperate to bolster his squad to try and overtake Benfica into top spot for next season and has identified the Brazilian as a potential signing.

The 17-cap Brazilian international spent the second half of last season on loan in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion. Representatives of Lisbon and QPR are soon expected to open discussions about agreeing a deal.

Sandro is said to be one of the higher earning players at Loftus Road and they are very keen to let him move on this summer. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur man is expected to discuss terms with 18-time Portuguese top flight league champions in the coming days.

The 27-year-old hasn’t featured in the blue and white hoops of QPR since December and he made his first appearance for West Brom a few months later. He made 24 appearances in all competitions for the two clubs last season, but is said to be seeking more regular football and a move to Portugal presents him with a realistic chance to do so.

Moving to Sporting Lisbon would see Sandro link up with a few players based at the club that previously have experience of playing in British football. Ex-Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani, Bryan Ruiz, once of Fulham and ex-Dundee United star Ryan Gauld are all on the books at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
