Middlesbrough agree fee with Ajax for Danish international

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf are reporting on their website that Ajax winger Viktor Fischer is closing in on a move to newly-promoted Premier League side Middlesbrough. A fee of 5million euros is said to be the price likely to be agreed between the two clubs.

Head coach Aitor Karanka is busy making preparations for next season as he takes charge in the top flight for the first time. He has already unveiled his retained list and is now looking to add proven quality to bolster his squad.

It is understood that Boro have seen their bid accepted by the Dutch giants, who narrowly lost out on the Eredivisie title to rivals PSV Eindhoven on the final day of the season.

The 21-year-old Dane, who made the move to Ajax from Dutch side FC Midtylland in 2011, has left the training camp of his international team-mates to fly over to Teesside to discuss the move. He is in Age Hareide’s squad for the Kirin Cup tournament, which also involved Bosnia, Japan and Bulgaria.

Fischer, along with his agent, are expected in Middlesbrough shortly where he a transfer is highly likely to progress onto the next stage. It is set to be another high-profile departure from Ajax, who along with most Dutch clubs, find it difficult to keep hold of their prized assets if teams from the big European leagues come calling.

Last season, Fischer helped himself to ten goals in league, cup and Europa League for Ajax. The skilful and tricky winger is the type that will excite the Riverside Stadium crowd and he is set to become the bane of Premier League full backs next season.
