Brentford reject QPR enquiry for skipper

Brentford have rebuffed Queens Park Rangers’ approach for left back and captain Jake Bidwell according to West London Sport. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is keen to sign a left-sided defender but the Griffin Park club are unwilling to part with the former Everton youngster.

It is also understood that Hasselbaink is keen on Huddersfield Town defender Joel Lynch as well. With Clint Hill leaving the club this summer, there is a gap in the left-sided centre back position which needs filling up, in addition to a left back role as well.

Bidwell will enter the final year of his contract next season and it is unclear if he is willing to commit his long-term future to Dean Smith’s men. Many would feel a move to QPR is at the very least a sideways step, although Brentford did finish the Sky Bet Championship season higher than QPR in the league table.

The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer in the Brentford defence ever since signing a permanent deal following two successful loan spells with the Bees. He has since been rewarded with the captain’s armband despite his young age. Many at Griffin Park feel as though he is a consistent performer as well, and should he go, they would notice his absence more than if others would move on.

As for QPR, the search for a defender continues, as Hasselbaink looks to put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion after a frustrating campaign last year. He will get the opportunity to stamp his own authority on the team, having joined during the season last year and can get a pre-season with his players for the first time.
