Wolves chase signing of League 1 goalkeeper

Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers are understood to be chasing the signing of out of contract Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler according to the Express & Star.

The 27 year old Swiss stopper has been offered an extension to his deal at the Greenhous Meadow along with fellow goalkeepers Mark Halstead and Callum Burton but the offer of a move to Molineux could prove to be too tempting for the player to turn down.

Leutwiler signed for Shrewsbury Town after being released by former club Middlesbrough in summer 2014. The player has gone on to make 91 appearances for the Shropshire club and broke the club’s clean sheet record after keeping 26 clean sheets in a season as The Shrews won promotion to League 1 in the 2014/2015 season.

The keeper has confirmed that he is looking to stay at Shrewsbury Town next season however the club are expecting Leutwiler to attract plenty of higher division interest over the summer.

Leutwiler is a former Swiss youth international having represented his homeland at Under 16 to Under 21 levels. The player is a graduate of the academy set up at Swiss club FC Basel and spent the early days of his career playing in Switzerland prior to his move to Middlesbrough in summer 2012.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer with Carl Ikeme currently the only senior stopper on the books at Molineux.
