Bristol City to continue interest in Barnsley winger

Championship club Bristol City are continuing to show an interest in Barnsley winger Adam Hammill according to the Bristol Post.

The 28 year old could leave the South Yorkshire club this summer once his short term deal expires. Hammill is The Tykes’ player of the season and the club will be desperate to offer the player a contract extension but could face a fight for his signature with Bristol City manager Lee Johnson a known admirer.

Former Barnsley boss Lee Johnson offered the Liverpool born winger a deal at Oakwell back in November after Hammill was released by Championship club Huddersfield Town and the player has played a huge part in Barnsley’s rise to the League 1 Play Offs making 33 appearances for the club and scoring eight goals.

Hammill started his career at Liverpool but failed to make an appearance for The Reds and joined Barnsley in August 2009. The player went on to make 70 appearances for The Tykes and scored 12 goals before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2011 for a reported £500,000 transfer fee.

Hammill struggled to gain a place in the Wolves side during two and a half seasons at Molineux and joined Huddersfield Town in summer 2013. The winger featured regularly for The Terriers during his first season at the club but fell out of favour during his second season and was released in September last year before returning to Barnsley on a short term deal

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has been tasked with building a side capable of challenging in the top half of the Championship table next season. The Robins boss is understood to be looking to sign a winger during the close season and Hammill is an exciting player who Johnson knows extremely well. City were originally linked with a move for the player a couple of months ago.
