A closer look at the Belgian ‘wonderkid’ Boro are chasing

Middlesbrough may have their work cut out if they are to land proposed transfer target Dennis Praet. According to reports in the sun they are battling it out with Southampton for the 22 year year old’s signature.

Praet, a Belgian international has long been dubbed the ‘golden boy’ of Belgian football and a closer look at some media publications indicates that this youngster has been linked with a long list of Premier league clubs, high profile ones at that. Chelsea, newly crowned champions Leicester, Southampton, Middlesbrough and he was heavily linked with Man City and Liverpool in January.

The rumoured fee for the midfielder is around £10m which, if the hype surrounding him is justified, seems a pretty good deal.

So what exactly would this young, exciting maverick bring to your club should he decide to come to the England?

He started out playing at youth level for Genk and quickly began to get noticed. He played in Belgium youth teams and attracted the attentions of teams like Arsenal, Barcelona, Ajax and Lille.

He moved from Genk to Anderlecht in 2010. He played in the under 19’s to begin with and continued to impress receiving an award for best player during the Aegon Future Cup in 2011. A tournament where the youth teams of Bayern Munich and Ajax were involved.

From 2011 Praet has made 128 appearances for Anderlecht and scored 17 goals. He has also appeared in the champions league (scoring against Galatasaray).

A fantastic run of form for his club side at the end of 2014 meant he was awarded the Belgian Golden Shoe, the award for the best player in the Jupiler Pro League for the calendar year.

He has played at every level for Belgium from under 15 upwards and has had one cap at senior level.
