Two teams interested in Millwall hotshot Lee Gregory

Finding a regular goal scorer is something of a must for any team wanting to succeed in any division, and they come at a premium.

Burnley paid around £9m for Andre Gray and saw his goals rocket them into the hallowed ground of the Premier League. Millwall are seeing a similar effect with Lee Gregory, albeit in League One and at a lesser premium when it comes to cost.

On the back of a 31-goal 2013/14 season across all competitions for National League Halifax Town, the one-time Jamie Vardy strike partner found himself catapulted back into the Football League with then-Championship side Millwall for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £300,000.

His first season at Millwall saw an eight-goal return and relegation to English football’s third tier in League One. However, it is his form in this division that is catching the eye of higher league teams including the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton, according to the Daily Mail’s Mail Online website.

It’s the 25-goals across all competitions that have caught the eye of watching teams, with 18 of these coming in a successful League One campaign that have helped drive the Lions to the very brink of a Wembley run-out in the League One Play-off Final – Millwall taking a 3-1 lead into the home leg against Bradford City tonight.

The Mail Online say that “scouts will be at The Den on Friday night to watch Gregory in action against Bradford” and go on to say that the Lion, reluctant to sell as they are, would be looking to recoup £2m for their free-scoring frontman with South Yorkshire side Sheffield Wednesday and south coast side Brighton thought to be leading the way.

Mail Online also report that League One winners Wigan are also said to be interested in Gregory following their promotion back to the Championship.
