Retained List: Shrewsbury move eight on

Shrewsbury Town only just narrowly avoided relegation into League Two and manager Micky Mellon has stressed that he is keen to avoid suffering a similarly struggling season. He has issued his retained list, allowing several to leave and offering deals to others.

A total of eight players are free to leave the New Meadow, whilst six more have been offered new contracts in the hope that they will extend their stays and join the 12 already under contract for the forthcoming campaign.

Firstly, lets focus on those who will be moving onto pastures new. Regular substitute Jean-Louis Aka Apra will move on and is free to join another club. He mainly appeared off the bench but also started his fair share of games too. He ended the season scoring seven goals in all competitions.

Experienced centre back Zak Whitehead is another big name to be departing. The former Liverpool man started 21 League One matches but hasn’t done enough to warrant extending his stay. The 32-year-old American will search for a new club.

Fellow defender Jermaine Grandison also leaves after a length association with the club. He signed in 2011 following a productive loan spell from Coventry City. He has since gone on to appear over 100 times for the Salop and started 19 more league games this season.

The remaining players to leave are mostly fringe players at best, and they are Micky Demetriou, Elliott Grandin, Scott Vernon, Jordan Clark and James Caton.

New contracts have been offered to regular defender Nat Knight-Percival and versatile performer Junior Brown. Others to be offered fresh terms are Callum Burton, Mark Halstead, Jayson Leutwiler and James Weselowski.
