Retained List: Two first-teamers leave Derby

In the week Derby County saw their season end with a 3-2 aggregate play-off defeat to Hull City, they have issued their retained list to the Football League. There are no major shocks, with two first-teamers being allowed to leave, along with five Under-21 players.

Darren Wassall hopes that he is the man to guide the club to another promotion challenge next season, but it isn’t completely clear if he will get that opportunity.

Experienced left back Stephen Warnock after spending the second part of the season out on loan with Wigan Athletic, where he won the League One title. There is every chance both parties will look to make that a permanent stay, but one thing is for clear, he won’t be on the books at Derby. The ex-Liverpool youngster made 30 appearances for the Rams since joining last January.

Conor Sammon also leaves the iPro Stadium. The striker also ended the season out on loan at another club, having spent the year at League One side Sheffield United. The 29-year-old joined the club in 2012 and scored 13 goals in 50 starts, with plenty of substitute appearances alongside that as well.

Under-21 winger Alefe Santos has been offered a new deal, whilst Ivan Calero, Tom Koblenz, Mats morch, Shaquille McDonald and Kwame Thomas have all been allowed to leave.

The following first team players remain under contract for next season:

Lee Grant, Cyrus Christie, Craig Forsyth, Craig Bryson, Jake Buxton, Richard Keogh, Jeff Hendrick, Chris Martin, Darren Bent, Johnny Russell, Chris Baird, Jason Shackell, Bradley Johnson, Alex Pearce, Scott Carson, Jacob Butterfield, Will Hughes, Abdoul Camara, Kelle Roos, Nick Blackman, Tom Ince, Andreas Weimann, Jamie Hanson, Marcus Olsson, Max Lowe, George Thorne, Jonathan Mitchell, Raul Albentosa, Ryan Shotton.
