Former Leeds midfielder would want to manage the club

Former Leeds United midfielder Eirik Bakke has admitted that he would be interested in managing the club in the future.

In an interview with Norwegian outlet Nettavisen, Bakke states that it is his ‘dream’ to manage a bigger club.

The 38-year-old is currently the manager of Norwegian side Sogndal, the town where he was born, and has been in charge since January 2015.

In his 504 days in charge of the club, Bakke has overseen 45 matches, winning 23, drawing 12 and losing 10. His side currently sit in 10th place in Norway’s Tippeligaen after 11 games.

Discussing his managerial career with Nettavisen, Bakke was asked about potential interest in the Leeds United job and he replied “it’s a dream to train a bigger club. And I had a very good time in Leeds, it is a club that is my heart close.

“Anything can happen, perhaps it may be appropriate at one time, but right now I have more than enough to do here in Sogndal.”

The ex-midfielder made 143 appearances for Leeds in his seven year stint at the club, both in the Premier League and the Championship, scoring eight goals.

Bakke also spent time on-loan at Aston Villa where he featured 14 times at the beginning of the 2005-06 season.
