Glenn Murray

Fulham frontrunners to sign proven Championship goalscorer

The London Evening Standard understands that AFC Bournemouth are willing to let striker Glenn Murray leave on a free transfer, and Championship side Fulham are hoping to swoop. Slavisa Jokanovic is hoping to bolster his forward options ahead of next season.

Murray is believed to earn in the region of £30,000-a-week at Dean Court, and Fulham are prepared to take over that wage, during the week that they had their own transfer embargo lifted.

It was less than a year ago that the Cherries prized with £4million to bring the 32-year-old to the club from Crystal Palace, where he played over 100 matches. He has been restricted to just 25 appearances this season, and has fallen down the pecking order in Eddie Howe’s squad.

With Moussa Dembele quite likely to leave Craven Cottage this summer, Ross McCormack will need some assistance in scoring the goals needed to ensure the Whites enjoy a better season that the one which has just finished. They only finished just above the relegation zone and flirted with relegation for a long time.

Howe is adamant on keeping star-striker Callum Wilson in his squad but is happy to let Murray depart to free up wages and a space within his squad. Fulham appear to be the front-runners to sign the forward, who has an excellent record at Championship level. In his Crystal Palace days, he reached 30 goals in the season the Eagles won promotion into the top-flight via the Championship play-offs.
