Ahead of today’s board meeting that will set the tone and approach of Leeds United’s football for the forthcoming season, news has come out of the club that they have eyes on a Scottish striker.
Emerging via Phil Hay’s Twitter feed (below), it appears that the Whites have interest in Dundee’s 26-year-old striker Greg Stewart.

The former Hearts Under-17 player seems to have caught the attention of Leeds’ current head coach Steve Evans, with Evans showing leanings towards Stewart according to Hay.
Stewart, who signed for Dundee in the summer of 2014 from Scottish club Cowdenbeath, notched 13 goals and provided 10 assists in his first season at Dens Park. This season has shown a certain level of consistency with him scoring nine SPL goals and laying on 15 assists for the Dark Blues.
To put Stewart’s 15 assists into perspective, Leeds United’s highest goal assist player over the past two seasons has been Stuart Dallas, the left winger providing six assists this season and displays that led to him being crowned the Players’ Player of the Year at Elland Road.
Leeds fans will openly point out and admit that two areas of concern over the past couple of seasons are as follows: the team don’t score enough goals and there is often a lack of support for the lone striker that Chris Wood was used as last season.
Should Leeds United be pressing forward with the lone striker approach, that being largely dependent on the head coach in situ for next season, then someone with the high-assist ratio that Stewart has would be an ideal addition to a side running this system.
Additionally, if Leeds adopt a 4-4-2 system then playing with two wide players like Stuart Dallas and Greg Stewart, players who get themselves in positions to supply teammates, would not be a bad scenario to have on the pitch.
