Blackburn Rovers consider move for former Charlton boss

Blackburn Rovers are said to be considering a move for former Charlton Athletic manager Jose Riga, according to a report by The Sun.

Blackburn are currently drawing up a shortlist of names to interview as they look for a replacement for Paul Lambert.

Several names have been linked with the job already with Paul Jewell, Neil Redfearn, Gareth Ainsworth and Neil Warnock being just some of the bosses talked about in the media.

Riga, who left relegated Championship side Charlton Athletic at the end of the season, is now another name being talked about in regards to the Blackburn job.

The Belgian took his first job in England with Charlton in 2014, and successfully kept the club in the Championship.  Riga then joined Blackpool, but his spell with the club was nothing short of disastrous.

Blackpool had hardly any first-team players on the books, and Riga was sacked four months after taking charge, having won only one of his 15 games at the club.

Riga returned to Charlton in January 2016, tasked with keeping the club in the Championship once again.  History did not repeat itself however and Charlton were relegated to League One, finishing in 22nd place.

Many fans would advise against appointing a manager who has just been relegated with a Championship rival as your next boss.  However Blackburn seem to be looking into the possibility of Jose Riga, even if he is just one of several contenders for the job.
