Derby County boss denies Hanley rumours

Derby County manager Darren Wassall has denied reports linking The Rams with a summer move for Blackburn Rovers defender Grant Hanley according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The Rams suffered a 3-0 home defeat in the First Leg of the Championship Play Off Semi Final against Hull City on Saturday and the club are set for another season in English football’s second tier unless they can overturn the significant deficit in the Second Leg on Tuesday evening.

Recent reports have linked Derby County with a £2.5 million move for Blackburn Rovers defender Grant Hanley as The Rams look to improve their defensive options ahead of next season but Rams boss Darren Wassall has since confirmed that he has not held any talks with the Lancashire club.

“I haven’t been in talks with anybody” Wassall told local media sources.

“The only talks I have been in is with the players that are here and making sure we are right for tomorrow (against Hull City).”

“These are the players we have got, these are the players that have got us into the play-offs and these are the players have got to go and turn the result around.”

“I have said all along, I believe in these players.”

Hanley has two years left on his current Blackburn Rovers deal. Should the player remain at Ewood Park for the duration of his contract the defender will have spent a decade with Rovers having joined the club as a 16 year old.
