Brentford want to sign Scunthorpe defender

Brentford want to sign Scunthorpe United defender Conor Townsend this summer, according to a report.

Townsend has only recently signed for Scunthorpe, agreeing his contract with the club in January of this year after spending a few months on loan with the same team last season.

The left-back came through the ranks at Championship side Hull City and had been loaned out several times before joining Scunthorpe.  Townsend had experienced no fewer than seven loan spells before finding his place at the League One side.

Townsend made 20 appearances this season for Scunthorpe after signing in January, helping the team to seventh place and narrowly missing out on a play-off place.

Despite beginning the season playing for Grimsby in the National League, Townsend doesn’t seem to have found the leap up to League One difficult and this has prompted Championship side Brentford to come calling for his services.

If Brentford do sign the left-back, questions will be asked about why he was let go from Championship rivals Hull City only in January.
