Retained List: Sigurdarson exits Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have today named the names on their retained list following a frustrating season in the Championship. They have been mid-table for most of the season, but Kenny Jackett intends upon improving that showing next season.

Therefore, he has decided to release six players, but it is only really one of those who have enjoyed regular first-team football this season in the first-team fold.

In addition to those leaving, Emiliano Martinez returns to Arsenal following the completion of his loan deal. Also, Jackett has decided against the option to buy on-loan striker Adam Le Fondre. Therefore, he returns to parent club Cardiff City.

Bjorn Sigurdarson leaves Molineux having made 75 appearance since signing in 2012. He scored just seven goals in that period however, and also spent time out on loan with Molde and FC Copenhagen. There has also been times where he has been injured for prolonged periods and was also out of favour for a long time too. He is the highest profile player to leave the club on the retained list.

Tommy Rowe departs having failed to hold down a regular place in Jackett’s team. He too has spent long periods away from the club on loan with Doncaster Rovers and Scunthorpe United. It is also worth noting that he had his injury problems as well.

Also moving on are Zeli Ismail, Liam McAlinden, Aaron McCarey and Razak Boukari. Most of those failed to make the grade at first-team level with Wolves and barely earned too many appearances during their time with the club. Boukari joined in 2012, but injuries meant he only played a handful of times.
