Leeds United youngster Ronaldo Vieira has stated that it’s “the best week I’ve ever had” after signing a professional deal with the club and making his debut last weekend, in an interview with the club’s official website.
The 17-year-old midfielder made his debut in the closing stages of Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.
Vieira joins Alex Mowatt, Lewis Cook, Charlie Taylor and Kalvin Phillips in featuring in The Whites’ first-team this season from the academy.
Speaking about the past week, Vieira told the club’s official website that “it’s been absolutely amazing, it’s everything I dreamed of. It’s the best week I’ve ever had – signing my pro deal on Thursday and then making my debut on Saturday.
“I found out about my pro just over a month ago and then I found out about my debut on Friday.
“At first I got told I was going to train with the first-team, then my coach came and told me there was a possibility that I might be on the bench.
“Then the manager told me while I was training that I was going travel. It’s been unbelievable. I joined the club just over a year ago and I think I’ve worked hard, but I’m not going to stop. You have to keep working hard.”
Leeds United finished the season in 13th place in the Sky Bet Championship table, and it appears that boss Steve Evans will be departing the club at the end of his contract in the summer.
Former Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga is currently clear favourite to take over as Leeds United Head Coach for the 2016/17 season.
