Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be chasing the signing of Charlton Athletic youngster Ademola Lookman according to the Sunday Express.
The 18 year old has been one of the few positives in Charlton Athletic’s dire campaign in the Championship. The Addicks may have been relegated to League 1 but Lookman has regularly performed well for his club and is said to have impressed scouts of both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
The young striker has scored five goals in 24 appearances for The Addicks this season after graduating from the club’s academy system. After starring for the South East London club’s Under 18s and Under 21s sides, the player was handed his senior debut in early November when Charlton Athletic fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at MK Dons.
The Wandsworth born striker was recently awarded the Championship’s Apprentice of the Year Award and is regarded as one of the most promising young talents outside of the Premier League.
Lookman is contracted to Charlton Athletic until summer 2020 but the player is likely to want to move on after the club’s relegation. Manager Jose Riga resigned from his post after yesterday’s 3-0 home defeat to Championship title winners Burnley and the club could be willing to cash in on one of their biggest assets in a bid to provide their new manager with funds to help rebuild the squad over the summer.
It is believed that both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur could submit bids in excess of £8 million for the young striker.
