Leeds striker Mirco Antenucci says goodbye to the club

It had long been mooted that Mirco Antenucci, who had worn the white of Leeds for two seasons after being signed from Italian side Ternana, would leave at the end of this current campaign.

Despite no official word from the club on his departure, it seems that the following Instagram post from Antenucci’s account is his ‘arrivederci’ to Elland Road.

This video is to greet the city of Leeds and the big fans with love.you were always great with me.has been an honor and a privilege to have worn this historic t-shirt and having trod Elland road..i always wanted in my career playing one day in England and I can say certainty that this is the best club I could choose. This was a incredible lifetime and football experience !! sometimes there were misunderstandings as in all the best families but I think it’s normal . there were positive and negative moments of joy and disappointment..here my first daughter Camilla was born and then i feel a little English me too ..I always given 100% and I have never spared for this shirt. hear choirs with my name in this stadium it was amazing and above all the children’s fans feel me a star..wonderful .. i want to do a big good luck to all the fans and to the my ex teammates of Leeds ..you deserve the best !! all the best Leeds 💛💙#leeds #7 #antenuccibaby🇮🇹

During his two seasons at Elland Road, Antenucci has established himself as a favourite with a large segment of the Leeds United fanbase. He was the highest scorer for Leeds during the 2014/15 Championship campaign, notching 10 goals as Leeds fought to avoid relegation for large parts of the season.

Antenucci opened this season with a screamer against Burnley (above) and went on to score nine goals in a season where he started only 21 games, appearing off the bench 18 times. As well as netting nine times, the bearded Italian also laid on four assists for the Whites.

Whilst some may point fingers at his involvement in the so-called ‘Sicknote Six’ escapade at the end of his first season, plus subsequent non-appearance at the club’s ‘lap of appreciation’, it cannot also be denied that without his 10 goals that season, Leeds might very well have been in a much worse place than where they ended up.

Mirco, grazie di tutto e arrivederci.
