Ramírez, a 25-year-old Uruguayan born in the port of Fray Bentos, is a player who once commanded an £11.4m transfer fee when Southampton brought him over from Italian Serie A side Bologna at the end of August 2012. Since 2014, it’s been a series of loan spells that have seen the Uruguayan gain game time, the latest bringing him to Teesside on January 26 2016.

Since arriving at the Riverside, Ramírez has been something of a revelation for the Teessiders with his goal-scoring coming to the fore. In 17 Championship games since arriving on loan, the 25-year-old has scored seven goals and laid on four assists for the Premier League-pushing side.
