5 Factors that could give Boro the edge in the £200m match

5.Last Years Heartache

Last year Middlesbrough saw their lead in the championship disappear and then the play-off final against Norwich proved to be a match too far as they started poorly and never recovered. One of the players who took that experience the hardest was home grown defender Ben Gibson. The young centre back has drawn on that experience and this week has seemed bullish in his determination to ensure Boro make the most of the opportunity in front of them.

Speaking to the Evening Gazette earlier in the week he said.

“We’ve shown over 45 games that we can handle pressure. That’s why we are where we are,” Gibson said.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll handle it again and win the game and get up to the Premier League.

“We’ve got to encourage the fans to get behind us, but I know that they will. They live for days like that at the Riverside, as I do.

“Let’s hope we can make this one of the standout ones. I truly believe we can and I’m sure they will as well.”

Middlesbrough will be as determined as ever to ensure the same doesn’t happen again and with a defence like theirs, home form, the atmosphere and a squad of talent that they have at their disposal and the steely determination to avoid last years disappointment means that Boro might just return to the premier league after a 7 year absence.
