Former German champions to visit Griffin Park

Brentford have announced details of their 2016/2017 pre season programme which includes a home pre season friendly fixture against the four time champions of German football 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

The Bees will face Konrad Funfstuck’s side at Griffin Park on Saturday 23 July as Brentford prepare for another season of football in the Championship.

Die Roten Teufel were champions of the German top flight in 1950/1951, 1952/1953, 1990/1991 and 1997/1998 and provide Brentford with some intriguing opposition. 1. FC Kaiserslautern suffered relegation from the 1.Bundesliga in 2012 and have struggled to return to Germany’s premier competition. The club have endured a frustrating current campaign and find themselves sitting in eleventh position in the 2.Bundesliga table, a huge 17 points behind the division’s Play Off places.

Brentford will open their pre season campaign with a trip to Boreham Wood on Friday 8 July before flying out to Germany for a training camp where they will face another 2.Bundesliga side in the form of VfL Bochum 1848 on Wednesday 13 July.

Upon their return to England, The Bees will travel to Adams Park to face League 2 side Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday 19 July before their home friendly with former German giants 1.FC Kaiserslautern.

The West London club have announced that they are also planning another home fixture on Tuesday 26 July and an away fixture on Saturday 30 July prior to the start of the new season.
