Jose Dominguez

90s Premier League player chases Peterborough job

Jose Dominguez, once of Tottenham Hotspur, has thrown his hat into the ring to become the next manager of League One side Peterborough United. The Peterborough Telegraph understands that the 41-year-old has sent his CV to the club and wishes to be considered for the vacancy.

The Portuguese can also class teams such as Sporting Lisbon, Kaiserslautern and Birmingham City on his playing as ex-clubs. Dominguez applied for the Walsall job earlier this season when Sean O’Driscoll was dismissed.

It is understood that Dominguez would hire former Birmingham team-mate Kenny Cunningham as his assistant manager should he be hired.

Whilst this would be his first job in English football management, the three-cap international does have managerial experience to his name. He spent time in charge of the Sporting Lisbon B team, whilst his most recent role was in Colombia with Real Cartagena, who he left last year.

Barry Fry, the director of football at the London Road club, was manager of Birmingham when Dominguez was a player between 1993 and 1995. The one-time tricky winger is hoping to make a name for himself in this country once more, only in the managerial hot-seat on this occasion.

It remains to be seen if owner Darragh MacAnthony will seriously consider Dominguez for the role or even grant him an interview. Nevertheless, it is interesting to hear he wants to return to England in a management role. Maybe there is room for more than one football manager from Portugal called Jose.
