Investor shows interest in Nottingham Forest

Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis is understood to have approached Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi with a view to investing in the Midlands club according to the Nottingham Post.

The 48 year old is the founder and chairman of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp and is a major shareholder of Capital Product Partners L.P.

Marinakis has brought success to current club Olympiakos with the Greek club having already sealed the Greek Superleague crown by a huge points margin with nearest challengers AEK Athens sitting 28 points behind the Piraeus based giants.

With Marinakis having already achieved club honours in the Greek Superleague, the international shipping multi-millionaire could be set to make an impact on the English footballing pyramid and has identified under-achieving Championship club Nottingham Forest as a potential investment opportunity.

It has been reported that Marinakis has already met with Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi to discuss a plan for his investment. With talks continuing to take place, Nottingham Forest are yet to comment on the situation although it is understood that the club are speaking to a number of prospective interested investors.

Nottingham Forest are in need of a significant financial boost with their season having ended with a whimper with the club falling down the Championship table in 2016. The club have been operating under a transfer embargo for some time after breaching Financial Fair Play rules although that restriction is set to be lifted meaning that the club should be in a position to participate in significant transfer activity over the summer.
