Leeds United fan group – questions answered

3: You claim Cellino has only put in £5 million and that the fans are paying for the club yet acknowledge we are still losing £10 million a year offset by player sales.  There were no significant sales last year, so surely the club is still dependent on Cellino supporting us financially?  Why would you consider it viable to force this man out with no alternative to bridge the gap in the meantime?

A: Where did we claim he only put in £5m? I don’t recall us ever mentioning that figure. Massimo Cellino has already said the losses for this season will be much worse then the 14/15 season. Granted, this season has now been aided somewhat in the 3.7m sale of Sam Byram, but that still leaves a predicted shortfall of approximately 8m. Massimo Cellino didn’t cover those shortfalls last season, the sale of Ross McCormack did. The Ross McCormack money could have been reinvested in the playing squad but was instead used to reduce the clubs losses. If anyone can be credited with supporting LUFC financially (with the exception of Leeds fans), it is Fulham, West Ham, Ross McCormack and Sam Byram respectively. This does not take in to account the various other amounts raised via player sales: Stephen Warnock, Tom Lees, Domimic Poleon, Matt Smith, Billy Sharp, et al. These players did not attract “big money”, but money did get paid to the club to acquire their services. Add the contingency payments for Delph and Gradel this season to the fee received for Byram, and you’ll see Leeds with back-to-back seasons of healthy net profit on transfers.

4: You openly state you wouldn’t be opposed to Cellino staying if we went up.  This after branding him all sorts and vehemently wanting him to leave the club.  Surely you acknowledge this is fickle and embarrassing?

A: We have also never said that. If you have evidence to the contrary, we’d love to see it. If Leeds were promoted with Cellino in charge, it would indicate a monumental shift in his approach and significant, tangible investment in the team for the first time in his 25 years as a football club owner. If Time To Go Massimo has pushed for anything other than Cellino leaving, it’s for significant change. We feel incredibly confident, unfortunately, that Cellino can not and will not change. He has offered no glimmer of hope. Not a shred.
