Charlton Athletic: angry voices in Duchatelat out protest

Second-half shenanighans

The second half started, and the same “We Want Roland Out” continued to ring around the Valley, along with “Get Out of Our Club, You Bunch of W**kers Get of Our Club!”, and toilet roll and water balloons being thrown onto the pitch. These definitely making their first debut to try and out Duchatelet.

In the 51st minute Charlton scored an equaliser, Jordan Cousins crossed the ball to Johann Berg Gudmundsson who slotted the ball into the back of the net. The Valley faithful cheered, but continued to celebrate with “We Want Roland Out!”.

Before Roland Duchatlet extended his collection of football clubs and purchased Charlton, he owned the top tier Belgian side, Standard Liege, whose fans ousted the owner after attempting to merge Liege with another Belgian team which Duchatelet also owned.

Today the Liege fans have been messaging Charlton fans and in particular the Charlton forum – Not606 Charlton – to wish them best of luck at removing Roland Duchatelet.

At points in the game, Brighton fans were starting the “We Want Roland Out” chants.

Coming towards the end of the game, the protests start to become extremely intense and pressured, a flare is thrown onto the pitch, and the directors box is attempted to be stormed. This is all happening along with the famous protest songs and chants.

CEO Katrien Meire, is forced to be escorted and leave the game early as fans are still protesting outside and very close to the Directors’ Box.

A good little summary of all the protests today inside the Valley.

CARD release a tweet thanking all the Brighton fans for their united efforts today in ousting Duchatelet and his team from Charlton.
