Fleetwood Town v Blackpool – Match Preview

A huge derby is set to take place on the Fylde coast on Saturday afternoon as Fleetwood Town face local rivals Blackpool at Highbury for the very first time in a Football League fixture.

Both clubs are in danger of relegation to League 2 with Fleetwood Town sitting just two places and two points ahead of 21st placed Blackpool.

The home side go into the match sweating over the fitness of striker Shola Ameobi who has been struggling with a hamstring problem. The Cod Army have defensive concerns with Joe Davis facing a race against time to recover from an ankle injury while fellow defenders Bob Harris (toe) and Danny Andrew (knee) will miss out.

Blackpool manager Neil McDonald selected his preferred starting line up earlier this week although defender Hayden White will face a late fitness test after picking up a recent knock. Midfielder Henry Cameron has been ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign with a knee injury.

Fleetwood Town have faced Blackpool only once before in competitive football at Highbury with The Seasiders securing a 5-1 FA Cup victory over The Cod Army in January 2012. Blackpool also won the first league meeting between the two sides earlier this season when the unfortunate Nathan Pond scored an own goal as Pool won 1-0 at Bloomfield Road.
