Top 5 passing midfielders in Championship

Alan Judge (Brentford)

Of all the passing midfielders in this quintet, Alan Judge is likely the one that stands out as the Championship’s most valuable midfielder, although he does play in a more attacking role. Whilst currently recovering from a recent leg break, Judge is in the running for SkyBet Championship Player of the Year. The Ireland international signed for current club Brentford on June 2 2014 after a successful loan at the Bees.

So far this Championship season, with 37 games under his belt, Judge has essentially lit up the Championship to such a degree that Premier League clubs have been paying serious attention to him. He has 47.4 accurate passes per 90 at an overall accuracy of 83.2%. Of these accurate passes, 76.9% (43.6) of them are classed as ‘short passes’ (a pass of 25-yards or less). He has also produced a total of 93 key passes (passes which end as a shooting oppportunity for a teammate) out of his 2,060 passing attempts – meaning that 4.5% of his passes end as shooting opportunities for fellow Reading players.

What sets him apart from all other midfielders in this five-star line-up is his contributions to Brentford’s goal tally. Alan Judge has scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in helping Brentford into 13th place in the table.

Next up is a man who went from a Saint to a Seagull via  stretch in London.
