Top 5 passing midfielders in Championship

Adam Clayton (Middlesbrough)

Adam Clayton arrived at Middlesbrough from Huddersfield via Leeds United and Manchester City with a burgeoning reputation of a passing midfielder. After a transfer deal that involved a number of twists, Boro finally got their man on August 13, 2014 in a deal worth a reputed £1.5m fee.

So far this Championship season, with 38 games under his belt, Clayton has 56.6 accurate passes per 90 at an overall accuracy of 86.6%. Of these accurate passes, 88.3% (49.7) of them are classed as ‘short passes’ (a pass of 25-yards or less). He has also produced a total of 26 key passes (passes which end as a shooting oppportunity for a teammate) out of his 2,363 passing attempts – meaning that 1.1% of his passes end as shooting opportunities.

Clayton has also scored one goal this season, whilst also laying on a single assist for a teammate.
