The top 5 right backs in the Championship

WILDCARD: Ben Marshall (Blackburn Rovers)

Ben Marshall began the season playing as a right winger against Wolverhampton Wanderers.  However since then, he has played in four different positions for Blackburn.

Marshall has made appearances as a right winger, left winger, attacking midfielder and finally right back for Blackburn this season.  If you asked a Blackburn Rovers fan what position Marshall is, they would probably tell you he is a winger who is played at right back by manager Paul Lambert at this moment in time.

Marshall is a key player for Blackburn, and has started his last 16 games for the club at right back meaning he can be considered for the list.

Whilst watching Marshall play in this position, it is obvious that he definitely has defensive capabilities.  The winger is good at reading the game and uses his pace to get to key areas before his opponent.

However Marshall’s attacking play is what is attracting a lot of attention this season.  Despite playing in defence for Blackburn, nearly all of the team’s attacking threat comes from the right hand side of the pitch through Marshall.  He is key to the team and Blackburn aren’t the same side when he doesn’t play.

That being said, Marshall’s long-term future is surely further up the pitch, where he can have a greater effect on the game.
