4 huge Football League derbies that could be possible next season

With the season nearing a climax, there’s the potential for some tasty fixtures in the Football League next season.

Here’s a list of four potential fixtures we could be seeing next year that really make our mouths water:

Newcastle v Middlesbrough

The Tyne-Tees derby is a fixture that hasn’t been played since 2010. The two clubs, separated by 34 miles, become fierce rivals in the early 2000s, as they were the only two North East clubs in the Premiership. Although rivalries with Sunderland have risen up for both teams, this fixture has more history. Newcastle look odds on to be relegated to the Championship this season, but as it stands Middlesbrough are tipped for promotion. If they don’t get promotion, this will certainly spice up the Championship a bit next season.

Norwich v Ipswich

The famous East Anglian Derby, one of the longest standing rivalries in English football. Although this fixture has been played as recently as last season, if Norwich were to get relegated it would add an extra buzz to the Championship. This fixture always serves up fiesty encounters, none more so than when the sides met in the Play Offs. Ipswich fans will be hoping this fixture will be played next season, Norwich fans will not.
