Brighton & Hove Albion kept the pressure on their automatic promotion chasing rivals with an impressive 2-1 away success against Birmingham City at St Andrews.

Albion went into the match knowing that a victory was required to ensure that the club continue to remain within touching distance of the top two in the Championship and Chris Hughton’s side battled back from behind to earn an excellent three points in the Midlands.

Birmingham City handed a home debut to Northern Irish striker Kyle Lafferty and it took the player just 16 minutes to open his goalscoring account for The Blues when he slotted the ball into the net to put the home side ahead.

Brighton & Hove Albion looked dangerous in attack throughout and on the half hour The Seagulls levelled when bruising defender Connor Goldson headed Albion level. With the scores equal at the break, the away side started the second half in rapid fashion and it was another defender who gave Albion a 2-1 advantage in the early stages of the half when Lewis Dunk headed into the net from a well taken corner kick.

Birmingham City struggled to severely test Albion keeper David Stockdale further and Chris Hughton’s Albion side went on to secure a vital three points which moves the club to within two points of the Championship summit with just six matches remaining.
