Hull City confirm desire to keep Steve Bruce

Championship promotion chasers Hull City have confirmed that they hope that manager Steve Bruce will stay at the club while stressing that they will not entertain interest from Championship bound Aston Villa according to the Express and Star.

Aston Villa sacked Manager Remi Garde yesterday after just 147 days in charge at Villa Park winning just twice in 20 matches as manager of the Midlands club.

Villa have just 16 points on the board and are 12 points adrift of Premier League safety. It has been reported that the club will now seek the appointment of a British manager as the club look to make an immediate return to the Premier League with Hull City manager Steve Bruce one of the favourites for the job.

Sources close to Aston Villa previously indicated that the job could appeal to Bruce however the City boss is currently aiming for promotion with his current club and is almost certain to stay with The Tigers should they return to the Premier League come May. City’s form has been patchy of late with the club failing to win in their last five matches but sit just five points behind the automatic promotion places.

Bruce has played and managed Villa’s arch rivals Birmingham City in the past and the 55 year old could prove to be an unpopular target amongst the club’s supporters.

Hull City are preparing for business as usual following the international break with the club not looking to let their manager leave for another club.
