Hull City: on-loan striker wants to be Arsenal regular

Chuba Akpom is a 20-year-old striker who signed for Arsenal at the tender age of six-years-old and is currently nearing the end of a season-long loan at Championship side Hull City.

Buoyed by seeing other Arsenal youngsters getting chances at the Emirate, Akpom is, according to a report on the Daily Star website, excited about a return to London where he intends to stake a claim for consideration in Arsene Wenger’s first team set-up.

Whilst at the East Yorkshire side on loan, the young forward has scored seven goals across all competitions, marking three each in the Championship and the FA Cup and a single goal in the League Cup. However, his time at Hull hasn’t been without some form of controversy.

Akpom was forced to apologise on Twitter (above) after a reaction to being substituted by Hull City boss Steve Bruce. With the score at 1-1, Akpom was substituted and angrily threw his gloves n the direction of the Hull City dugout, shaking his head and raging loudly at the decision.

Speaking to BT Sport, but quoted by The Star website, Akpom has told of his resolve to return to the Emirates and work hard to put himself in the picture with the Arsenal management. On this topic, Akpom said,

“Arsenal’s a good club and I’ve always wanted to play for the first team there so I’m looking forward to going back at the end of the season.”

He then went on to specifically speak about the breakthrough impact of players such as Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, noting the progress they have made whilst also admitting that this is a situation that he will be aiming to follow. The loanee striker said,

It’s always good to see young British talent shining in the Premier League…This summer I’m just going to work as hard as I can and in pre-season do the best that I can.”

Hull entertain Bristol City when the next round of Championship games fire up next Saturday on April 2.
