Doncaster Rovers Manager Darren Ferguson tore into his side after suffering a dreadful 4-1 League 1 defeat at Colchester United according to reports by the Sheffield Star.
Rovers got off to the perfect start when on loan Scunthorpe United striker Gary McSheffrey netted at debut goal but Darren Ferguson’s side suffered a second half collapse as Colchester United scored four goals in 25 minutes to plunge the South Yorkshire club into further relegation trouble.
Doncaster Rovers are in free fall after a run of 14 matches without a victory in League 1. After seeing his side record just one point from their last 10 league outings Rovers boss Ferguson was embarrassed by his side’s latest defeat.
“I’m absolutely fuming,” Ferguson told the Sheffield Star. “It was an absolute embarrassment.”
“That is an absolute nonsense what I’ve seen there.”
“No characters, no-one leading. A shambles.”
“There is no way I am saying anything else than what I actually think and the truth is, that was an absolute shambles.”
“Quite honestly I could play the youth team on Monday and get more out of them than that. I think the fans would probably appreciate it.”
“When I see 30 minutes like that, I would have to say I do fear for [League One safety]” the Rovers boss added.
“Everyone is going to say you’re the manager, but you know what, sometimes I disagree with that.”
“They’ve got to show some character, they’re grown men not kids. Nonsense.”
“I take my responsibility but at the moment they are not doing what I want them to do.”
“I’ve got to pick a team that is not going to embarrass the football club on Monday afternoon at home to Blackpool.”
Doncaster Rovers have the opportunity to leapfrog Blackpool with victory in Monday’s clash at the Keepmoat Stadium.
