On loan Leeds United youngster on scoresheet

19-year-old Robbie McDaid, is one of those players that Leeds United are seemingly bringing through the Thorp Arch Academy system with some regularity.

The Northern Ireland Under-19 international, who will be away with his country on Under-21 duty this weekend, was signed by Leeds in 2014 from Irish side Glenavon and is currently on a half-season loan to National League side Lincoln City.

Whilst yet to break through into the Leeds United first team, the young striker has been earning praise  for his all-round performances in Leeds’ youth set up. This work ethic earned him the move to Lincoln City where he is gaining vital first team football.

McDaid has made 11 appearances for Lincoln City since signing his loan deal with 10 of these coming from the bench, his last appearance against basement side Kidderminster being his only start.

Before today, the young Northern Irishman had scored one goal for the Imps in a 3-1 win over Southport. However, he scored today against former Football League side Tranmere Rovers in a game where he finished on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline – something that he tweeted about on his personal Twitter feed.

The youngster’s goal was a finely-taken one, a header where he rose highest to turn in a free kick played into the area and allow 10-man Lincoln to equalise.

Talented youngster McDaid now heads off to Northern Ireland to meet up with Jim Magilton’s Under-21 squad as they prepare to face their Scottish counterparts on Tuesday in a qualifier for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
