McEachran injury could end his Brentford season

Brentford midfielder Josh McEachran has suffered a potentially season-ending injury in training this week. West London Sport understands that the former Chelsea youngster is feared to have suffered another fracture to his foot.

The 23-year-old was forced to the early part of this season through a similar injury and the Bees medical staff are concerned that the problem has once again arisen. He is unlikely to play again this season, but they’ll await an official prognosis.

The central midfield has been sent away for a scan, after suffering the problem during a Thursday morning training session during this international break. The ex-Vitesse loan man has been enjoying a run in the team of late, especially since the January departure of Toumani Diagouraga to Leeds United. Ironically it was during a training ground collision with Diagouraga which forced him to break his foot in the first place.

Manager Dean Smith will know much more about the condition of McEachran after the weekend and it will then become clearer if he is available for selection at all. It would appear quite likely that his season could well be over, especially as he sat out the first four months of the season with a similar problem.

The Brentford number ten moved to Griffin Park on a three-year deal last summer after agreeing a fee in the region of £750,000 with Chelsea. McEachran had played his football for Chelsea for a number of years, coming through the youth system. However he only managed limited appearances in the Premier League. He would enjoy loan spells away with Swansea City, Middlesbrough, Watford, Wigan Athletic and Eredivisie side Vitesse.
