Bolton Wanderers striker joins Pompey

Bolton Wanderers striker Conor Wilkinson has joined League 2 promotion hopefuls Portsmouth on a loan deal until the end of the season according to the Portsmouth News.

The 21 year old Croydon born forward is eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland and is currently away on international duty with the Under 21s side meaning that the player will be unavailable to feature for Pompey until a week on Saturday when Carlisle United are the visitors to Fratton Park.

Wilkinson started his career as a youth team player at Millwall but left the club in summer 2013 and signed a three year professional deal at Bolton Wanderers. The striker has made just four appearances for The Trotters’ First Team and has been loaned to a number of clubs in previous seasons including Chester, Torquay United and Oldham Athletic (twice).

This season, the player has spent time on loan in League 1 with Barnsley where he made eight appearances scoring once before another loan move saw Wilkinson feature for Newport County where he scored once in 12 appearances.

Portsmouth are in sixth position in the League 2 table, five points behind the automatic promotion places and are in need of some consistent good performances in the coming weeks if they are to secure a return to League 1.

Wilkinson’s loan deal can be extended to include the League 2 end of season Play Off matches if required.
