FA hand fines to Swindon and Millwall

The Football Association have confirmed that Swindon Town and Millwall have both been fined following their ‘failure to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion’.

Swindon have been fined £15,000, whilst Millwall will need to pay up a £5,000 fine following an incident which took place in the 67th minute of their League One clash on March 12th 2016.

The match itself finished in a 2-2 draw at the County Ground, where Millwall let go a 2-0 lead, and Swindon equalising four minutes into added time thanks to a goal from Michael Doughty.

The incident itself resulted in yellow cards for Swindon’s Louis Thompson and Milwall’s Jed Wallace, who has since returned to parent club Wolverhampton Wanderers after he was recalled from his loan spell. Thompson is also on loan from a higher league club, that being Premier League side Norwich City.

Yesterday (22nd March) an Independent Regulatory Commission took place and it was agreed that both clubs would receive their respective punishments. Both clubs have also been warned regarding their future conduct.

In the League One Fair Play table, Swindon Town are positioned 13th after receiving 70 yellow cards and two red cards in the league so far. Millwall are in 3rd place after accumulating 86 yellow cards and four red cards. Top of that table is Peterborough United with 98 yellows and seven reds. Whilst Coventry City are bottom with 40 yellow cards and two red cards. The only team in the league not to have collected a red card is Walsall.
