Steve Evans set his players points target amid job speculation

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has called on his players to pick up nine points out of their next 12 after their three-game winning run came to an end following a disastrous home defeat to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield on Saturday.

Evans, who has insisted that he is focusing on the club’s next game against Rotherham United despite speculation surround his future at Elland Road, is keen for his players to use the international break to their advantage and prepare themselves for a tough run of fixtures.

In an interview with BBC Radio Leeds at the club’s training ground, he said: “We’re working hard at Thorp Arch before the lads get a few days off.

“[There’s] lots to build on, nine points from 12 and that is the target for the next four matches, which is a very tough run with three of them away from home.”

The Whites face a trip to Evans’ old club Rotherham on Saturday before facing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s QPR at Elland Road next Tuesday under the floodlights.

They then face tricky trips to Birmingham and Burnley, with both clubs currently fighting for a spot in the play-offs and the automatic promotion places respectively.

Evans has been with Leeds since October and has taken the club away from the relegation zone to mid-table with the Yorkshire side currently occupying 13th position.

However, in recent days, controversial owner Massimo Cellino, has reportedly come out and said that he wants to get rid of Evans in what would be the Italian’s sixth sacking since he purchased the club just two years ago.
