Bolton star free to leave on loan

The Bolton News understands that Mark Davies is free to leave Bolton Wanderers on loan in the next few days. Thursday sees the deadline for the emergency close window pass, and high-earning Davies to free to leave the Macron Stadium.

The bottom of the table Championship side have resigned themselves to playing League One football next season and have began to take the necessary cuts to prepare for life at the level below.

Jay Spearing has also been told he is free to move on. He is one game away from triggering a £100,000 payment to former club Liverpool.

Liam Feeney has already left the Lancashire club and moved to play-off hopefuls Ipswich Town last week. He made his debut in the home debut to Rotherham United this weekend.

28-year-old Davies has already come close to leaving the Trotters this season. In January he agreed a £750,000 move to Sheffield Wednesday, only for that deal to fall through at the last minute. It remains to be seen if Carlos Carvalhal is prepared to sign Davies on a temporary deal for the remainder of the season, which could potentially include the play-offs.

Davies has a year left to run on his current deal, but it is clear that Wanderers would like him off the wage bill. With the player also unlikely to favour playing in the league below next season, now could be a good time for him to impress to earn a permanent deal over the summer.
