Bolton duo set for immediate exit from the club

Bolton Wanderers duo Jay Spearing and Mark Davies could be set to leave the club this week as the Championship strugglers look to slash their wage bill.

The Daily Mirror reports that Spearing is on £16,000 a week and Davies is on £17,000 a week, and Wanderers need to cut their wage bill due to financial issues at the Lancashire club.

The emergency loan window closes on Thursday, and Bolton are looking to find exits for both players before then in an effort to ease the financial situation.

The club’s top-earner, David Wheater, is expected to leave in the summer when his contract expires, The Mirror claims that he currently earns £18,000 a week.

Wanderers have already been active in allowing players to leave the club, Liam Feeney joined fellow Championship club Ipswich Town on-loan last week.

The Mirror also claims that Spearing has been told he will not make another senior appearance for the club, as they will owe former club Liverpool £100,000 if he features again.

Spearing has made 131 appearances for Bolton, scoring seven goals and assisting 17. Davies on the other hand, has played 197 times for Wanderers, finding the net 16 times and assisting a further 17.

Bolton look all but set for relegation, currently sitting at the bottom of the Championship table, 12 points adrift from Fulham in 21st place. Their last fixture was the 6-0 defeat at the hands of Bristol City.
