Northern Ireland star set to snub Leeds for Sheffield Wednesday

Kyle Lafferty is set to reject a loan move to Leeds in favour of joining promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Mirror.

The sought-after Northern Ireland international has fallen out of favour at Norwich with his last appearance for the Canaries coming in a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup in January.

Leeds were linked with a move for the 28-year-old in the January transfer window and Steve Evans thought he had finally been able to secure the services of the forward on a deal until the end of the season.

However, with just days to go before the loan window shuts, it now looks like he will join Sheffield Wednesday instead as he tries to help them secure a return to the Premier League and convince them to offer him a permanent £1.5m deal in the summer.

Wednesday have flourished this season under Carlos Carvalhal with Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri proving to be a constant menace for opposition’s defences.

However the Portuguese boss could now be set to add the 6ft 4in forward to his attacking line-up to ensure that he has another goalscoring option for the crucial run in.

Lafferty is desperate to get some playing time under his belt to keep himself fit and in the best possible shape for the European Championships in June.

He was the nation’s top scorer in the qualifiers, notching seven goals to help Michael O’Neill’s side reach their first major tournament since 1986.
