Bristol City in the hunt for Premier League midfielder

Bristol City Head Coach Lee Johnson is preparing to make a loan move for out of favour AFC Bournemouth midfielder Shaun MacDonald according to the Bristol Post.

The Robins have lost midfielder Korey Smith to an ankle injury and the player is struggling to regain his fitness meaning that the club are short of suitable replacements.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Andrew Crofts has previously been linked with a loan move to Ashton Gate but it has now been reported that the club could make a move for MacDonald.

The 27 year old Swansea born midfielder has made just seven appearances for The Cherries this season with just two of those appearances being made in the Premier League. MacDonald joined AFC Bournemouth in August 2011 and has gone on to play a part in the club’s fairytale rise from League 1 to the Premier League. The player has made 99 appearances in total for the Dean Court club scoring six goals but MacDonald has appeared for the club more sporadically over the past two seasons.

MacDonald has three senior international caps for Wales and a temporary move away from the South Coast could enhance the player’s chances of a late inclusion in The Dragons’ squad for the European Championships in France in the summer.
