Lennon leaves Bolton, ex-player favourite to replace

Less than a week after being officially taken over by Sports Shield Consortium, Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers have announced the departure of manager Neil Lennon. He leaves the club by ‘mutual consent’.

The Trotters are rooted bottom of the Championship table but are eleven points after from the promised land of safety. Academy manager Jimmy Phillips has been installed as interim first team manager.

A brief statement released on the official club website also wished to thank former Celtic boss Lennon ‘for his contributions during his time at the club’. Lennon leaves the Macron Stadium after being appointed in October 2014, signing a four-year contract, of which he only lasted 17 months.

Wanderers have only achieved four victories in the league this season and are highly likely to be playing their football in Sky Bet League One next season. Lennon has find life difficult at the helm, with the majority of his stint in charge being hampered by the financial situation at the club. He hasn’t been able to sign a player for some time due to the transfer embargo.

The 44-year-old was in his second managerial job after previously winning three Scottish Premier League titles and two Scottish Cup honours during his time in charge of the Scottish giants. The early favourite to become the next Bolton Wanderers manager is current Southend United boss Phil Brown. He is priced at 6/4 with Bet Victor at the time of writing. Brown previously played over 250 games for the club during the late 80s and early 90s, then returning to the club to act as assistant manager to Sam Allardyce as well.
