Cardiff City defender re-joins Gillingham

Cardiff City defender Deji Oshilaja has re-joined League 1 promotion hopefuls Gillingham on a loan deal until the end of the season according to Kent Online.

The 23 year old returns to The Priestfield Stadium for the second time this season having spent the first half of the season with The Gills prior to being recalled by parent club Cardiff City in January.

The loan deal officially runs until 8 May but the deal can be extended should Gillingham require the player for League 1 Play Off matches. The Bermondsey born centre half made 15 appearances during a successful initial loan spell with the Kent club prior to his recall by The Bluebirds.

The youngster is a graduate of the academy set up at The Cardiff City Stadium but has failed to make a significant impact on the Cardiff City first team and has previously been loaned out to Newport County, Sheffield Wednesday and AFC Wimbledon.

Oshilaja joins a Gillingham side who are enduring a defensive injury crisis with the club currently only having one fit central defender prior to the youngster’s return. John Egan and Bristol City loanee Adam El-Abd are both currently out injured leaving Max Ehmer as the club’s only fit centre half.

The Gills could hand Oshilaja his second debut for the club at Southend United on Saturday.
