Rovers need 13 points for safety says Ferguson

Doncaster Rovers Manager Darren Ferguson believes that a 50 point total will be enough to retain the club’s League 1 status according to the Doncaster Free Press.

Rovers are on a torrid run of form with a winless run of 11 league matches leaving the club in free fall. The South Yorkshire club now find themselves just two points clear of the relegation zone in 20th position in the League 1 table.

A similar poor run from Notts County saw The Magpies slide to relegation to the Football League’s bottom division last season and Doncaster Rovers Manager Darren Ferguson has set his side a 50 point target to avoid the same fate.

“Fifty points,” Ferguson told the Doncaster Free Press when asked about his targets for the season.

“In the last five years 50 points has kept you up. So that’s four wins and a draw we need.”

“It might go right to the wire.”

“We’re on the worst run out of all of the teams in the league and I’m going to need some character”

“It’ll be hostile. The fans are not happy, understandably.”

On the subject of Doncaster Rovers’ dire run Ferguson added “it’s the worst run I’ve had as a manager and probably they’ve had as players.”

“So you would expect the confidence isn’t great.”

“But we just have to find a way of winning a game.”

“I might have to look at something different next week, I’ll just have to keep trying different formations and different personnel.”

“I went with a really attacking team (on Saturday) and still I didn’t think we had the quality at times to test their goalkeeper.”

Doncaster Rovers face Ferguson’s former club Peterborough United at The Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.
